Pet Portraits by artist Irisha
A warm welcome to my Pet Portraits website. My name is Irina Petrova but I’m known as the artist Irisha. Originally from Russia, I now live and work from my home studio in Gloucester, UK.
I’ve been hand painting custom pet portraits in pastels professionally since 2010. You can see examples of my latest art by following me on social media (Facebook or Instagram). Alternatively you can read my blog articles where I often discuss new pet portraits I have completed.
If you are looking for a personalised dog portrait, cat portrait or horse portrait I would love the opportunity to capture their likeness in an animal portrait you will cherish.
Pet Portraits in pastel
Animal portraits are a great way to remember our pets who are very much part of the family. They also make a wonderful gift for those difficult to buy for friends or family members. Many of my pet portraits are given as Christmas gifts or Birthday gifts. All my pet portraits are produced using pastels, a medium which I feel has a number of benefits. Pastels are great for highlighting texture like a pet’s fur. They are also more economical to produce compared to animal portraits in oil. On the subject of cost, please do compare the quality of my art and my prices with other pet portrait artists. I’m confident you will feel my paintings offer great value for money.
You can view more examples of my work by visiting my pet portraits gallery page.

I do list a price guide on the home page and on my dog portraits, cat portraits and horse portraits pages. It is however a guide and there are a range of factors that determine the final quote. These include:
- Whether the pet portrait is a head study or full body portrait.
- Whether the pet portrait is of one subject or more than one subject.
- How simple or complex the background is.
- Whether you want the pet portrait supplied unframed or framed.
I require a deposit to start a pet portrait. I email an image of the finished portrait and there is no obligation to buy until you are happy with it. Once you are happy the balance is payable (cash, cheque or Paypal) and the finished pet portrait can then be collected or posted to you by special delivery.
I am able to produce a pet portrait from physical photographic prints that you post to me or digital pictures that are sent by email. It’s important that the pet is clear and appears large in the pictures. Ideally the lighting will have been neutral so that the fur colour is accurate in the photo. Also avoid images with red eye if possible. Sending multiple images that illustrate certain features or reveals your pet’s personality will help. The better the pictures you send the better the final pet portrait.
Typically my pet portraits will take 3-4 weeks from point of order. Certain times of the year are busier but I can always give an approximate completion date before I start.
Some customers want to arrange their own framing. I am able to supply your custom, hand painted pet portrait framed if you prefer. I only charge for the cost of the frame, no fee for actually framing. I can advise which frames I use or you can send me the frame you would like to use.

This portrait of Bailey, Jasper and Archie was commissioned by Pete for his wife’s 50th birthday. There are 3 generations of their dogs together in this painting. The initial idea was just to do a head & shoulders portrait but after looking through all the photographs available I suggested to Pete that I could create
This portrait of Toffee had been commissioned by Callum as a gift for his fiancée. Sadly, Toffee had passed away and this portrait of her is created as a memorial to keep alive all the wonderful memories of this beautiful chocolate Labrador. There weren’t a great selection of photos I could work with and some
